Florentines and the Great British Bake Off

baking, GBBO, Uncategorized

In Britain we are already into week three of the great british bake off (GBBO), the nation sits down with a cuppa and twitter at 8 pm, in grip of baking frenzy. Favourites have been chosen while annoying traits of others have been identified. Those still at work beg for NO SPOILERS! from family and friends. The nation is gripped by Mary Berry's dismissive eyebrow frown- you haven't made your fondant from scratch?! – sacrebleu!

With a blogging backlog as long as my arm my good intention to bake and blog a bake from each week's show has bombed. Don't worry it's easier to read that last sentence than read it out loud!

I did make Florentines this week, but I used a different recipe and actually they were chewy ( I hope Mary is not reading) they did taste delicious though. For this reason I am not sharing the recipe, only the pic, which gives not a hint of imperfection.

Ready steady bake…..and thanks for visiting.

hi! i am Anne (hence vANNilla) - two 'N's autocorrect WILL autocorrect - grrrrrr I can most often be found cooking up a storm in the kitchen,(with my trusty thermomix) behind a camera or a kindle. If you are a traveller/photographer my bog is @vannilla http://vannillarock.wordpress.com If you have come as a baker my blog is http://vannillarock.com i studied economics in Edinburgh in the early 70's; now retired from a day job, on paper i have plenty of time to explore the blogosphere and enjoy the shared experiences of others. like every other retiree i know we wonder how we fitted in a day job. I split my time between Guernsey,. In the Channel Islands -a 20-odd square mile island with 60thousand+ inhabitants- and Phoenix, Arizona. The mix is perfect- the former is beautiful but attacks of cabin fever are never too far away. Arizona, on the other hand IS king of the open road and has THE biggest bluest sky EVER. my blogs revolve around baking (vannillarock) and photography/travel if you like what you see please do start a conversation :)

  1. Well that is very tantalising of you – to show us the Florentines, say they were deliciously chewy and then not say how you made them. Hm. Well at least my waistline is thanking you. And I’m thanking you for following my blog 🙂

    • Haha my reason was I considered the recipe a failure. You are very welcome for the follow – it should have come from my photography blog @vannilla

  2. You’re Florentines look great, I’m not brave enough to try them as I would let Mary down terribly and I wouldn’t be able face her in week 3! Looking forward to bread week 🙂

    • Haha don’t know if you saw the buzz feed on twitter around the disapproving fondant frown! She’s much less scary in real life 🙂 that for dropping in and thanks for compliment – the slight chew didn’t stop them disappearing !

i'd love to hear from you...
