  • 125g unsalted butter
  • 350g caster sugar
  • Grated zest of an orange
  • 3 eggs beaten
  • 10 ml vanilla extract
  • 320 g plain (all purpose) flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 300g sour cream or 250g sour cream and juice of the orange.


Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F

Prepare your tin well. I used this williams Sonoma bun tin Cinnamon Bun Pull-Apart Cake Pan | Williams-Sonoma

this is a 10″ cake tin so any deep tin that size should work. Alternatively make this mixture as muffins.

  • Beat the butter, sugar and orange rind until light and fluffy.
  • Gradually add the eggs and vanilla extract
  • Add the flour, baking powder, and baking soda, alternating with the sour cream
  • Bake for about 40-45 minutes.
  • Always check 10 minutes before end of cooking time as ovens vary A LOT

You could drizzle an orange flavoured icing over this.
